(17) An alien coming to open or be employed in a new branch, subsidiary, or affiliate of the foreign employer, if the alien will become eligible for status as an L-1 upon securing proof of acquisition of physical premises;
I think if you entered with your entire family to open up an office on B-1, CBP would be rather skeptical of your non-immigrant intent though.

You can enter as B-1 to open up an office, from the field manual:
Be better to get L-1A to begin with though, but it's open to question if the total stay is only going to be 4 months.

Edit: If money were no object we would have had it cooler in the house too

We had quite a large pool...14 ft max depth. Our gas bill for heating the pool...90F...over the summer months was approx $600+ and that was 15 to 10 years ago. We have since had the pool level raised to a max depth of 6 ft.

ok just out of interest I just checked our bills on line
highest ever July this year $249 (used 2393 kw)
lowest ever this month $130 (used 1300kw)
summer seems to be around 2000 kw per month
winter average 14-1500
the rates are weird 'fuel' is .034 for first 1000 then .044
'non fuel' is .055 and .065 respectively
no idea on the difference
standing charges seem to be about $12-15 a month

If it was our house we would certainly do lots to insulate it and add a pool despite the huge bills
Maybe it depends on area to the cost of bills?! The more we use the higher the price per KWH.
On a positive note our other utility (water) is really cheap, the lowest being $9 and the highest being $60 (when we had visitors for 2 weeks).
