You can enter as B-1 to open up an office, from the field manual:

Be better to get L-1A to begin with though, but it's open to question if the total stay is only going to be 4 months.

I think if you entered with your entire family to open up an office on B-1, CBP would be rather skeptical of your non-immigrant intent though.

...... if they moved with the family dog too, that would really cause suspicion!

The OP has already said he is not taking the dog for that very reason.

So what? That wasn't the point behind my response.

WTF are you heating? the ocean? serioulsy our TOTAL power bill in winter months is never over $150. thats heating a 10000 gal pool to 88deg.

you dont need heat in the summer, maybe odd occasions if the temps drop, unless you boil your egg in it...........

we have never had a power bill over $225 even running the heat pump and the AC.......................

Agreed. No pool here, but monthly bill is around $100-$150 in hot weather. This month, with no pool or ac was $50 ish. ie water heater, lights/tv. This is a 1200sf, poorly insulated house with one occupant. I can't imagine what power consumption gets a $600 bill. That said, the rates probably vary depending on location/supplier.

Wow that is so cheap!!! I don't actually have a pool that is what local friends have told us. If we were doing well during the summer months the electricity bill was 'only' $350, that's for a mainly single storey (only games room upstairs) 3500+ sq ft house with 5 peeps. Insulation? What's that

Edit: If money were no object we would have had it cooler in the house too

We had quite a large pool...14 ft max depth. Our gas bill for heating the pool...90F...over the summer months was approx $600+ and that was 15 to 10 years ago. We have since had the pool level raised to a max depth of 6 ft.

ok just out of interest I just checked our bills on line

highest ever July this year $249 (used 2393 kw)
lowest ever this month $130 (used 1300kw)

summer seems to be around 2000 kw per month
winter average 14-1500

the rates are weird 'fuel' is .034 for first 1000 then .044
'non fuel' is .055 and .065 respectively

no idea on the difference
standing charges seem to be about $12-15 a month

As it's rented we won't be doing anything to it It was built in 2002. I doubt it has much, if any insulation. The windows are single glazed too and most of one side of the house is taken up with sliding doors (west facing) which aren't the best fitting.

If it was our house we would certainly do lots to insulate it and add a pool despite the huge bills

Maybe it depends on area to the cost of bills?! The more we use the higher the price per KWH.

On a positive note our other utility (water) is really cheap, the lowest being $9 and the highest being $60 (when we had visitors for 2 weeks).
