Moving to Florida

It could have been worse...
...for as optimism can only lead to disappointment, pessimism can only make the future more enjoyable....
Yes, it was hot and humid. The grass was a sickly shade of green. The drivers are worse than a bunch of New Mexicans, and the traffic lights that take forever to change can't be seen from the line at which you stop. Sidewalks full of drunken Brits crawling from place to place. And angry Germans too. The drunken Brits run around tangling their MM ears like a bunch of bull elk in rut, and everyone is trying to rip off everyone else. $2.75 for a soda at the convention center (yes, the vending machines do take credit cards) and $5.50 for a coffee. Fortunately there's a Starbucks and a Subway (because you were right - no veggie restaurants anywhere) in that pile of construction rubble across the street commonly referred to as Pointe Orlando. Otherwise I would have starved or started appending e after e to the ende of every worde I see. Escape velocity is impossible - every road leads to I-Drive or Disney.
So it was most fortunate that business was well served at the conference and that I cuold senpd my envniegs cwlarnig my dukernrn Birt asre bcak and ftorh to the Ckircetres Amrs....
Thank you, Orlando.

The next conference is not only in Orlando, but at Disney. I've already told them 'no'. There are some places that cannot be cured even by alcohol.

So, given than one or two of you live out there, what's good in Orlando these days? Anything non-Disney worth seeing? Decent veggie restaurants?
Oh yeah, almost forgot - What kind of veesah do I need?

Stayed there a couple of days on a business trip last year, can't say I was the least bit impressed. The downtown area is just that, a downtown area. Nothing really stood out. Very bored to be honest. Was glad to be back on the flight home. (Did I really say that, "home"?)

Well, AWP, I am indeed thankful to have Orlando in the rear view mirror, and even more thankful to note that that particular conference doesn't return to FL until 2010. Next year, Chicago.
<rear mirror turned off, thanks all for dire predictions, lights out>

One of the fun parts of Epcot for me is the World Showcase - little countries (China, Japan, Canada) - so you can have breakfast in a French cafe, lunch at a British pub, and dinner at a Morrocan souk.
Plus, of course, if you ever leave the US, you know you'll spend the rest of your life having to explain that although youl ived in Florida you didn't go to Disney ....
