Re: moving to canada
A good inventory sheet is vital, in the event of loss, damage or
theft.
Another excellent way to protect yourself is to take photos of any
special items, including antique furniture, family heirlooms,
glassware, china, paintings and other works of art. In short, those
with high replacement costs, or higher risk of breakage. Wines and
clocks, too!
This makes it much easier to describe and set values for them, in
the event you have to make an insurance claim later on. A friend of
mine was particularly glad he had kept photos of an antique Persian
carpet.
Your shipping company may require you to list such "special" items
for insurance purposes.
Welcome to Canada!

Re: moving to canada
Hi
also remember the more you list the better customs takes you on your
word for contents
You can not sell any goods for one year or tax is due
List all expensive items you can estimate a group such as beding $500
but do not do that for art or good furniture
Friends took a series or their old home asis before packing this gives
customs and insurance a general idea of your goods
its also a reminder of the old home
then take a picture of fime furniture and goods
I also snuck some pictures of the container being packed incase we had a
dispute with how it was packed.
NOTE never add anything to container put out side they will add
"customer assisted in packing" to bill of lading and you will be docked
on any insurance claim.
Welcome to Canada which part are you moving to?
enjoy life
