Moving back to the USA after living in Canada for 2 years
Hi! I am hoping someone can help me with my question, I am an American that
has lived in Canada for 2 years and now want to move back home to Illinois.
My question is what is the protocol on bringing my belongings with me? I am
having a mover move me ,I am wondering when the mover said make a list of my
affects does that mean detail of each thing in the boxes or for example
kitchen wares would I have to list each item in detail? I just want no
hassle going back home so I hope someone here can answer this for me! Thanks
in advance for your help.

Generally it means a list of each "carryable item" ... for example "Box
- Kitchen pots and pans", Box - MBR clothing, Bed - MBR (6 parts)"
Carryable being an item you'd pick up and put on the truck with a
general description.
You should note items you purchased in Canada if of significant value
though.

Re: Moving back to the USA after living in Canada for 2 years
If you are taking your car, then you have to inquire DOT in USA about
regulations, any tax you have to pay, do you need to have it inspected and
such. In Canada there are no vehicle emissions tests, but in USA we have
them.
Regarding goods, just make a list of goods (items) that you are shipping
as well as you are carrying with you. You can just prepare a spreadsheet
with item name, serial number if any, cost(present) and finally the total
cost. Customs use this list to verify if you need to pay customs (don't
worry, usually don't have to pay customs unless you buy something in
Canada just before heading to USA)
Good luck and please post your experience. Thank you

Actually, as a point of order ... many provinces are introducing vehicle
emissions tests. Ontario for example, has the Drive Clean program.
