these replies baffle me. You are all responding like the 4 years under Biden weren't disastrous (and divisive)! Literally every single British expat that I know personally - here in South FL, is VERY happy with the results of the election.

Regardless of which political party you support, we can all agree that this country is more divided than ever before in modern times.

Everyone can have their own political opinions of course - but South Florida isn't exactly representative. I think even if you were a moderate Republican you'd be concerned with a lot of what the current administration is doing (more the means than the ideas)

Given recent developments, I would caution anyone to be careful what you post on forums and social media if their visa is up for renewal in the next couple of years.

We've often warned posters on BE that immigration officials, certainly in the USA and Australia, read the forum and find it relatively easy to identify some people from their details/usernames on here. Best beware, as you say.

That sort of statement requires a challenge. Any proof on this matter?

When I was working and in regular contact with US Embassy staff in London, I've seen BE on the computer screens in the USCIS section there.

In the US they can legally search your device and look at photos, contacts, demand passwords for any site they seem fit to determine if you gain entrance..

As they did recently to a French scientist going to a conference.

A French scientistwas denied entry to the US this month after immigration officers at an airport searched his phone and found messages in which he had expressed criticism of the Trump administration, said a French minister.

“I learned with concern that a French researcher who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled,” Philippe Baptiste, France’s minister of higher education and research, said in a statement on Monday to Agence France-Presse published by Le Monde.

"In the US" is a bit broad. The 4th amendment protects against warrantless searches in most cases. CBP have an exception that allows them basic searches of personal devices at a border entry point. More details of what your rights are in the URL below, but be aware that CBP have been known to take liberties, especially of late.
