Back in the 90s when i was in Wilmington staying with someone who attended UNCW. "The projects" were mentioned several times and none of it was good.

I'm sure there housing projects in many places that are perfectly fine.

I know the thread is about NC but the poster referenced "the projects" which are not unique to NC. So my reply was related to the projects.

Side note : What does vacuum tubes have to do with the airline mergers?

The OP is going to a great place, much like the 2 brits in the story, I bet they wished they knew where they were going that night?

Why have I muddied the water? That's was not the intention, I love NC.

When i'm told to stay out of a dodgy area I don't really start questioning why, I just take note. Nothing wrong with passing the information along, then people can make their own judgment can't they?

Fair comment, but telling people to "stay away from the projects" isn't very helpful when (i) there are very few places in NC known as "the projects" and (ii) just about every major city in the world, and most smaller cities, have areas that are "best to avoid" if you don't know where you're going and what you're doing there, especially during the hours of darkness. That is as true of Lewisham, Whitechapel, Toxteth, Moss Side, and the Gorbels, in the UK as it is of cities across America, and I strongly suspect that the OP, as a professional soldier, is very cognizant of the risks in the urban environment. But all of this has very little to do with advising him on what to expect when he relocates his family here, except to say that cities in NC have some "iffy areas". Yeah, and .... ?

Hi USMC

One on the first things that will happen when you arrive, is you will be briefed about NOT letting on in forums and facebook about what you do and why your in the US.

Or so I've heard

I don't know what most people do on here for a job, so its still easy to be part of the forum without to much detail.

Hi, I am well aware of the security protocol of posting on forums and Facebook, hence why I have not mentioned what Service I am in, and what my job entails.
