Lost decade of tourism costs $600bn, 500,000 jobs.
The travel industry today became the latest to slam federal rules and bureaucracy, charging that tough visa rules for potential tourists have robbed the nation of $600 billion and hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Two grim facts: More Chinese now visit France than the United States, in part because it's hard to get a U.S. visitors visa. And while the U.S. used to be the destination for 17 percent of the world's tourists in 2000, that's dropped to 12.4 percent and shows no sign of changing.

That and the TSA. What is the point in reclaiming your checked bag once inside the USA? It seems to be pure paranoia that foreign countries aren't doing their job well enough so we have to do it again once you are here

The newly minted Chinese population have a particular liking for luxury, gastronomy and Western branded goods.
The Champs-Elysees is shopping mecca for the Chinese, who feel that foreign branded goods are guaranteed to be genuine whereas in China, you can't be sure (plus they're cheaper outside of China.) Think Louis Vuitton, Coach, Prada etc.
Often France is visited en masse in giant tour groups and 'done' in two days between various other Europe countries. Come to think of it, that isn't very different from how many Americans 'do' Europe.

... I suppose they're going to blame Obama for that one too.
