Default shipping irreplaceable things???

I'm not sure what to do about a bunch of photos and keepsakes that are really precious to me. Should I ship them with the rest of my cargo or send them to a family member in a priority mail shipping box via USPS.

I haven't got the time to scan all the photos in or anything like that - and there is too much to take in a suitcase, which seems the same risk as all the other options as regards getting lost anyway.

any suggestions gratefully received.

(I'm currently sorting through and trying to pare it all down )

Can you take them in hand luggage? That way they are always with you.

If they are very important to you then I would suggest doing some sort of priority mail thing. Either send to someone you know or have someone you know send after you have arrived.

Unless you think your whole container is going to fall off the ship, why wouldn't you put them with the rest of the stuff? Probably safer than sending in a box.

However sometimes it's nice to have the really important things to hand as soon as you arrive as it can help with feeling settled.

I agree, FAR less cargo gets lost than mail............(speaking from work experience).

Sort out the most important ones, stick them in a small 6 x 4 box, and take in your hand luggage. The rest can go as cargo.

If you only get a small hand luggage allowance, I'd definitely prioritise photos over things like electronic gadgets (iPods etc) which can be replaced.
