It would appear that Manc's comment is correct. The area proposed as Little Britain includes two British businesses, one of which is promoting the campaign. It seems a lot like self-promotion to me.
A couple of businesses does not make a cultural/ethnic area IMO.

The difference between "Little Britain" and Little Anywhereelse is that all of the other neighborhoods actually have large numbers of ethic group x's people living, shopping or working there. Little Italy is more or less fading now as Italians move out, but it certainly used to be a genuine "community". This is good viral marketing but little else. I doubt NYC politicians are interested in promoting a "Little Britain" because there's no bloc of votes to be had as a result, and it's hardly going to be a big tourist attraction.
Do people actually refer to "Little Mexico"?
I live in NYC...

It's a publicity stunt. But it's a publicity stunt I can get behind. Calling it Little Britain is not much different from having a block on 46th street in Manhattan called Restaurant Row. There's hundreds of other blocks out there with dozens of restaurants on them, but that gets called Restaurant Row. Why not make that street Little Britain?
BTW, I signed the petition ages ago when it first came up on here there were many less complaints about it. Don't take it too hard Veronica.

It's not like the Greek-Americans in Astoria, Korean-Americans in Flushing or Caribbean-Americans in Crown Heights, where a politician can show up in the 'hood, support some questionable public project that caters to a certain ethnic group, buy off the "community leaders" with city money and then bugger off with the promise of several thousand votes at the next election.
Sorry if I'm being too negative, it's just that anything associated with Branson is like kryptonite to me...

NO, it includes the ones I had posted. Little Mexico has two Mexican restaurants a far as I can see. Little Italy is certainly not all Italian. If you actually go into the site it gives you a map of things included in the area. More British businesses would follow.
Jeez, I put this up so anyone who thought it was a good idea could sign it, people who live in New York or visit a lot seem to be delighted to sign.

It is a joy to watch. Still free speech is everything so you should indeed fight it till the end.![Sunglasses](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/sunglasses.gif)

Creating a Little Britain is far too premature at this point. It's all just a marketing gimmick. If you want to draw British and British businesses to NY, it's time for a Disneyworld New York!!!
