Default On a lighter note Oranges

Maybe just living in NYC, but oranges are lousy. Each year they get worse. I buy them on street stalls, I buy them in supermarkets, I even buy them in expensive Gourmet food stores. Still they are lousy, dry stringy. Maybe me, I don't think so. Apples are rubbish toooooooo, especially those big red ones. Taste like spuds.

Just about this time of year Wegmans start selling lovely oranges and tangerines but they are a lot dearer than the UK. The fruit and veg at Wegmans are always nice and much better quality than any other supermarkets.

Who's "we"?

If you can't find the oranges you like, 1) you have crap taste in oranges, 2) you're shopping in the wrong stores, 3) try buying oranges that are locally grown (or were grown as close to NY state).

A hefty portion of the Florida crop was lost to hurricanes this year .price are bound to be high.... but grapefruit will be so plentiful as usual in a month or two ..we have to throw them away ..

Ray,
there seems to be problems with grapefruits & various medications. Or so I read.
Re: my orange problems, did not just begin has been like it for years. I have been told its because, we are eating oranges that are probably 6 months old. Kept in cold stores. Who knows.
With my crapp British taste, probaly can't tell the difference.
Still I'm outside busy looking for local NY oranges.

Yep, thats the way to get fresh fruit. Ah scrumping in in the old country. Wow, that gave me a warm fuzzy moment.
Use to have a house in Valencia, oranges growing in back yard & up the hill.
