Leg room
#31
Having flown over 1M miles with AA, they are the best for legroom. When going to the UK, make sure the plane is a 777, not 767-300 (763). This means typically only LHR or Gatwick, as the regionals tend to get the 763.
The 777 has individual seatback TV's, and more room. I agree with the comments on BA. Here's the deal, on BA they get 10 seats a cross in coach (3/4/3) and the seat pitch is so poor there is hardly any recline. On AA they get 9 (2/5/2) across with much better pitch. Some of the cabin staff on AA can be old boilers, but hey, you'll never see them again!

Also Air India fly direct from Chicago to Heathrow, and apparently aren't bad at all. But I've never flown on them so don't take my word for it.

I last flew with them. I'd avoid US airways, Continental and Northwestern if you want a seat back TV.

Northwest just took delivery of a load of new Airbus A330's and did have the TV's in the back.
I flew with them in December and their service on the flights to the Dam were greatly improved.

I always found them hit or miss. I went through a time where I flew with NW about 6 times in the space of 5 months and everytime the level of service was different.

Sorry. I was trying to make a comment based upon what Patrick had said rather than what Dave F's wife had said.
I never said a single word against Liverpudlians in this thread or the "Unemployment Benefit" thread. If it is considered that I did, then I apologise to anybody who took offense to my comments.

I feel sorry for her, married at 12, stupid enough to stay in abusive relationship for 29 years. Has an english father and married to an englishman but doesn't understand the english sense of humor.

I'm sure there was a discussion of this somewhere, but can't find it. After 6 long years (don't ask), I'm finally able to take a trip back to the UK at the end of March. I'm going with my 4-year-old so space and on-board amusements are crucial.
So, question is, what's the best airline to go on. AA says it has extra legroom. True? Which ones have little TVs in the seat backs? Which (if any, after 9/11) are most relaxed and child-friendly? There's no question of going business class, unfortunately, just the cheap seats for us.

Bulkhead seats are the roomiest and you get a lil' tv that swivels out of the arm of your chair BUT, this is what I was told last time I tried to request them for us (and we have an 11 year old). 'You can not have Bulkhead window seats because they are by the fire doors and it is illegal for the airline to seat children there for safety reasons which means that you can only have the bulkhead seats on the centre aisle, however these are reserved for families that have babies who need space for a bassinet (sp).'
SO basically it depends on whether there are babies needing bassinets on your flight! It costs nothing to ask though.

Continental is pretty poor in my opinion. Their meals are absolutely crap. On the outbound flight from London to the US, the choice was chicken or beef and on the way back it was the same (not identical dishes but again it was chicken or beef).

On the return I decided to try the beef instead, and found two hard slabs of beef which could've been used to reheel my boots, plus the usual gravy and mash. They obviously know it's crap too, all they talk about on their web site is the first class menus.

We flew with Virgin, have to say they were very good, screens in seat backs that have a multitude of music, tv shows and films all starting when you want not in a loop. The controller for this is also a games console controller, and the use of this and the headphones is freeeeee! We were told to ask for seats at the back of the plane as they are in rows of 2 so you get a little more space to stick your legs out - we had one seats worth of space between us and the window. Food and drink were good and plentiful and part of the the flight price too.
