Default International Stockbrokers

Does anyone know a stockbroker in the US who trades in international markets and specifically will allow you to register your UK paper certificates with them.

We are having unreal issues trying to sell shares that we hold in UK companies due to the crazy paperwork now required in the UK. As we don't have a UK address anymore no one wants to do business with us at all.

Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at Interactive already to replace my current Scottrade account and they seemed cheaper and more accurate for regular trading. I didn't realize they would let you register certificates with them.

Are you treated as a US resident for tax purposes?

Have you looked into the tax implications of selling these shares?

Yes I have in fact as a US resident I pay much less tax as we have held them over a year.

Rincewind sold some UK shares he held - with Edwrd Jones.

I think it cost him $50 in commission, but he said it happened fairly painlessly

Great stuff - any chance you could fill us in on the details of how this is figured out?

Do you take the cost basis from the GBP to $ rate when the shares were purchased and when sold?

Yes and paid 15% on the difference although to be honest its pretty much optional as the US until 2 months ago has no record of any share purchased (yes really).
