Default INS offices are moving and reorganizing (April 17, 2002)

if you don't know about INS starting to reorganize itself, please go to INS website and link to pdf document on the front page.
Pretty interesting, that they want to make all lines less than 6 months short in 2003.

Do you think it is good or bad?????

Do you mean you read this in the 42 page restructuring proposal (fourth link in the restructuring blurb)? Or are you referring to something else on the main page of the INS website.

I'm in favor of the split because currently the single pot of money gets split
between enforcement and service and service usually gets jipped. Splitting it won't
automatically help here but it will focus attention on the exact amount of money the
service side has. FWIW, INS should be self-funding - money from fees should be enough
to fund it but more than that, any funds left over should be available for the INS to
improve it's service. Many people don't know this but the fees we pay for our
applications do not directly go to pay for the INS - instead they go back to the
government which decides how much to give back.

Obviously we're all in favor of the six month goal and I think we can all see
improvements towards this in the majority of INS offices. There is a need for massive
improvement in technical resources though and I hope these will be committed.

Andy.

But is there anyway for the lay person to calculate what INS draws in annually from fees and what their expenditures are in terms of rental space, equipment, supplies, salaries, healthcare, insurance premiums, etc?

Knowing a bit about the expenditures required to run even a small business, the costs for running a nationwide agency has to be astronomical. I, for one, would hate to see the fees go up to cover these costs. Believe through the K-1 and AOS processing and not the removal of conditions and future naturalization, that our costs of over $3,000 are more than enough to have covered the processing.

besides, texas service center (or whatever it is going to be) workload is going to increase 4 times because it will have more territorial responsibility, and, on the other hand, they are going to merge district (local) services with regional (areal) services and accordingly district timelines will be having somewhat same length as regional timelines. the life becomes even more exciting and interesting!

$3000? You spent that much in INS fees alone?
