You know, after reading about all the Brits who get approached by proselytizers I'm convinced that you guys must have a hidden tattoo that says 'Heathen Bastard' or something that only these religious folks can see.
I can honestly say no one has approached me about my religion or to join their church or anything like that in over 20 years. Maybe I have really bad 'bo' or something.

I was dragging heavy luggage, looking lost etc, and some guy came up, welcomed me to the US and offered me a book. Then he sarted babbling god-stuff, so I put the book on top of my luggage and started wheeling it away. He asks for payment for the book, and I have to point out that as I just arrived in the country, I'm not exactly bursting with cash, so then he wants it back.
Spreading the word of god still took second place to making a fast buck.

Our neighbours back in England were born-again Christians, they saw us as a challenge and tried a number of ruses to lure us into their fold, quite comical really. They were amongst the biggest braggers about material things I have ever met, and probably the least able to accept simple facts of life like people geting ill and dying, which I found very strange.

Here in California, I've only had a few mild-mannered Watch-Tower ladies and Mormons knock on my door.
But from my time in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi I remember being accustomed by persistent religious nuts on a regular basis. In all sorts of places - Walmart, the fishing pier, BBQ parties........... you name it. Usually the "Have you found Jesus" question would be the second thing they'd say after "Where are y'all from?"

On the whole I just observed and remained polite and English. However, I had some interesting experiences and made some pertinent observations.
I still have my diary of my time in MS......... and one day I shall perhaps write a book...

Hey...... I'm a Lady - and they do like women to be ladies in MS. And the accent sure helps.

Actually, hubby's family are all religious, his Grandma used to call us constantly to ask if our kids went to church, sunday school etc. Hubby used to tell them all that we prefer to keep our religious beliefs to ourselves and if the kids want to go to church they can decide that themselves when old enough.
Hubby shocked the poop out of me a couple weeks ago, he has started going to bible classes at the church on his base, nothing wrong with that I guess, and he would never 'preach' to me, poor guy must be more bored than I thought he was
now his Mom is sending him fancy bibles and other stuff, she thinks he is the prodigal Son
