ABY, LL, SnO, I can't compete with your rapid fire wit.
This, no doubt, is why you're all happily married. It must be wonderful being married. With loving spouses. Did I mention that these guys are married?
Oh, and Dean has gout.

Well I am 44yrs old and a Brit live in NoCal and my mum is 77yrs old, dad passed away last year and I am an only child.
Divorced.........and happily dating
I don't miss the UK 1 little bit, sure I miss my mum but we talk on the phone everyday, and she knows I will never go back to the UK permanently, she always says to me "you have your own life to live, there is nothing here, stay where you are happy its your life, I didn't have you to look after me in old age,as long as you are happy that's all I want and that make's me content".
I used to feel guilty years ago and occasionally now and then, but this is the life I have chosen, its been hard very hard at times as a few on here know, but I make the most of it, all I ask is that people accept me for me

BTW, how's the married wife and kids? Are you still frustrated at the lack of success with Levitra? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, pal.
What with his pending goat molestation court case, both you and ABY have really been through it lately.

As a long term member I'm just glad I could step in and get the thread back on track with some diplomacy.
Which bit
must be the "very hard" bit

Re: I love California but my family are in the UK
I'm a dual national. I just wanted to know if anyone else was returning home for family even though they loved living in the USA. I'm not homesick for the country, I miss the family. And yes, I have to make big decisions because I would not be returning for any other reason but the family. It would be different if I was married over here.
My bro lives near my mum and takes care of her on a 'weekly' basis. I help out with money, and, I fly her out here once a year for a great vacation (I try to give her a month here - not easy, by any means, but I figure she sees more of me in a month visiting than she would if I lived 'up the street'). I make a point of going somewhere 'exciting' each visit - Grand Canyon, San Diego, Yosemite, etc. She doesn't like flying but - she gets over it. I also call her several times a week to keep her company. I wouldn't do that if I lived nearby
She LOVES coming out here - loves the sun, the people, etc. So that's how I rationalize it - I give her a great vacation once a year, my brother takes care of her on the more mundane level. Someday, she's going to get sick and that will be tough; but I'll deal with that as and when it arises - maybe go back for a few months to be with her.
You can get round-trip tickets for $600, and - one realization I came to a long time ago - you don't have to go back for long to achieve a lot; a 1-week trip is perfectly long enough. So make a few trips a year if you have to.
Have you been back at all yet? Whenever I get nostalgic about going back, a quick trip brings me back to the reality that I could never live there again.
