Husband has reminded me that I also won't eat raisins, in any form or hidden in anything. Poor little humiliated grapes

Coriander/cilantro - of the devil.
Legumes - ie peas, beans, nuts, lentils.... (can't stand the texture)
Anything that filtered for a living when alive - liver, kidneys, lots of shellfish - taste & texture
Olives - taste & texture
Scallops - you don't want to know.

Sushi used to be on the list, but I've actually developed quite a taste for it now. Having said that, I do stick to the more mainstream items on the menu (tuna, salmon) rather than some of the more exotic species....

I'm going to agree with the chorus of people hating on hot dogs. Just horrible stuff. And I don't care that it's made from anuses and pig's foreskin. I lost my virginity in Wales - I've had all kinds of hellish unpleasant things in my mouth. But hot dogs are just revolting.

Peanut butter and jelly is going on my list of NO. I have never once eaten this concoction and never will.

And just to prove my non-American nature - pancakes and maple syrup is horrible to my mind.

If you are what you eat then I am beans. I eat astonishing amounts of butter beans, cannellini, chick peas and whatnot. And it is definitely worth the time to do fava beans.

High fructose corn syrup is the work of the devil it is hidden in so many foods that shouldn't even have sugar added and has for sure contributed to the obesity problem in the US.

Back to the okra debate, try it pickled (in a bloody mary) oh yessss ...
Sauerkraut especially the Bavarian sort with caraway seeds is delish with bratwurst.
Sweet potatoes or yams are great roasted in olive oil with parsnips, carrots, swede and red onion. My new favourite is napa cabbage it makes Delicious coleslaw yummmmmm

Yes. And the reason it tastes of vomit is that it contains butyric acid. Which is found in nature in - vomit.

It's the unique way Hershey's make their "chocolate" - they do something weird to the milk, which forms this chemical (also found in parmesan cheese and other milk products).

In fact, other chocolate manufacturers have been known to ADD butyric acid to their chocolate for the US market, as that's what Americans think chocolate ought to taste like. Puke.

Glad to know it's not just me, then.

I remember butyric acid from organic chemistry in school. Some poor ****er spilt some on their blazer and had to walk around smelling like vomit for the rest of the day. 'Twas not me, thank Christ

Historically, in the US to lengthen the shelf life of the chocolate the milk went through the lipolysis process breaking down the fatty acids. Ultimately this would stabilise the milk product but in effect partially sours the milk, releasing the butyric acid and it's lovely odour.

Anytime I offer up (v.v.v rare) some Galaxy or Dairy Milk to my Yankee chums they all love it and remark how they wished their chocolate could taste that way.
Bizarre.

You guys!
(I will whisper this) I`m back in the UK, putting on a healthy amount of weight eating bacon and god knows what else. Just had my first August Bank Holiday in five years. It was grey, rainy and windy. Now Tuesday morning, and guess what? The sun is shining and it`s beautiful!
