OK.... .....then you get to have fun in the sun in the streets paved with gold (although it took me a while to remember my SSN as people expect you to recite it to them as a security password).

I don't know where you are, but there are some nice shops (mainly chains) at Rookwood, close to Hyde Park. Also Hyde park and Oakley themselves have some cute smaller shops. Mainstrasse Village in Newport is nice too....

If you DO fancy a pub quiz, The Dubliner on Montgomery Rd at pleasant ridge is great (but crowded; and you need a few americans on the team cos it's definitely USA orientated).

yeah i have seen Rookwood and I have been on Mainstrasse Village a few times in Newport. Newport on the Levee is nice by the river!
maybe i will check out this pub quiz one day!

does it really take a long time to process all the forms?

i know it must be different in every case and depend how busy they are.

how long did you all wait for your work permit? i didnt realise i then had to apply for my SSN after that!

crazy what they make you do!!!!!!

how many months do you think it took from arriving in america to actually getting a job?
dont scare me too much!

i'll have to leave it to the others for this one, i had a job already, my boss moved from switzerland. So I had the permit already, and the ssn was only about amonth.

Neither did I, I applied for it at the same time as all the other forms, but apparently they just decided to ignore that one, so I had to go & apply myself in person, which only took a week.
