Default How to job hunt whilst still in the UK

Hello everyone! I am 25 and live and work in cumbria in the UK. I finished school in 2004 with 10 A-C's GCSEs and started a 4 year long advanced modern apprenticeship in Electrical & Instrumentation engineering. I also attented college 1 day a week during my apprenticeship and completed both in Feb 08, gaining NVQ3 in Engineering maintenance and BTEC HNC in electrical engineering. During my apprenticeship i was employed by Sellafield Ltd to complete the remaining two years of apprenticeship with them, and then be taken on full time as a qualified technician. I am now working with them full time shift hours, but the job is less than satisfying as I still lack money sometimes and have to apply for payday loans. I want to use my qualifications and experience to pursue a career in the amusement park industry and the dream would be to live and work in Florida at one of the amazing parks they have there. I have been trying to look into this but its so confusing and seems almost impossible to achieve. I have tried contacting the parks for information and job openings, all attempts failed. I have tried to see if im eligible for an green card, but it says im not because i dont have a job offer. I have aslo tried looking at the gap year programs, but they are only for bloody students! How do i find a job in america, whilst still living in the UK? Is there any chance at all of emigrating to america any other way?

You might want to start your own thread so your questions don't get lost. Also, the best forum for your question would be the immigration forum. [recommend you don't mention that your dream is to live and work in Florida, though]

Your best first step, based upon what you have written, would be to find a fit American bird on the interwebs and take it from there.

Start here. If you can answer "yes" to any of the questions, you might have a chance at getting a visa. If not, you won't be coming to the US as anything other than a visitor.

Here's a list of engineering jobs at Disney Parks in Florida, have you applied for any?

He is not qualified, and the ones I looked at are looking for locals.

Maybe get a job with Disney in Paris and then an internal transfer?

Jason - I have the exact same qualifications you do, they will not suffice for immigration purposes. You will need to find another way in. If you do manage to enter via another route your engineering qualifications will mean very little to US engineering companies - Not that this will stop you getting a job in engineering though but you won't be paid as highly as a US engineer.

If you could get to 'FE' level you will find work easily, getting to this level outside the US may be problematic if not impossible.

Good luck!
