bread, get it at whole foods or a local baker, so worth it, even if it is a tad pricey...probably a bit to much if you've got kids who'll go through loads of the stuff though.

Well wasn't asking you, was asking Jerseygirl :) But if you're moving, by all means share. I'm gonna have to move one of these days, absolutely hate the thought. Dunno where either.

That would be me. That's why I have made my own for a long time. They inhale the bread - one store bought loaf lasts five minutes in my house - so I make them healthy organic wheat with flaxseed and sunflower seeds in it - two slices lasts them a while.

OK, hope recipes aren't
gauche here:

Old Fashioned White Bread
1/2 cup milk
3 Tbs sugar
2 tsp salt
3 Tbs butter
1 1/2 cups warm water (110-115°)
1 pkg active dry yeast
5 1/2 cups flour (approx.)

1 Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt and butter. Cool to lukewarm.
2 Measure warm water into large bowl. Sprinkle in yeast: stir until dissolved.
3 Add lukewarm milk mixture and 3 cups of flour; beat until smooth.
4 Add enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
5 Turn out onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
6 Form into smooth ball. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease the top; let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
7 Punch down. Let rest for 15 minutes.
8 Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a loaf. Place each loaf in a greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch bread pan. Cover; let rise in warm place, free from draft until doubled in bulk, about an hour.
9 Bake in hot oven (400° F) about 30 minutes until crust is browned and sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from pans and cool.

Thanks! We've been doing ours in a bread machine (I say "we" - actually my DH makes it!). Only started a few months ago so lots of experimenting, flops, bread like a rock etc. I'm printing this one off.
