I presume you noticed the popover recipe that was posted, in case you needed one. But Yorkshire Puds are yummm... I've made them for years. And now I can make the 'proper' size :) having discovered that Muffin Top pans work perfectly. Talk about a ridiculous American invention, but useful in this case.

Have you met Mrs Bob yet Tracy?

the missus has a good, old recipe that she use's, so we're all set for pop-overs, when it's a good day for them, there so temperamental

i tend not to shop for food there but do grab the occasional box of cereal.

I find though that my UK recipes go wrong if I use US butter so I buy Lurpack and that makes things so expensive.

I was reading a US magazine that gave some recipes for a roast beef dinner and it changed the recipe for Yorkshire puds, saying that the British version was very bland:frown: . They added herbs, cheese and all sorts of stuff to "improve" them.

oh hell, thats missing the point entirely, they are supposed to be a fairly bland filler for the meal, and like the best bread, simple is best. Notice how things here are always 'pumped up' eg try the new chilli , mayo mustard, onion and bacon bits super size cheese sandwich. i find that all that extra gump is there to hide the fact the cheese and bread is horrible.

Ive found the butter here to be OK, I do hate that horrid crisco for baking though, i need some lard.

BTW what is it with sweet potatoes, went to a friends and they served this dish (looked disgusting) with marsh mallow on top WTF????

No luck involved, he probably is like that because you're a good mum. A few weeks back we were at a birthday party, they did the pinata, all the kids had a go & picked up the sweets that came out. Tyler loved picking up the sweets & putting them in the bag, but he had no idea what they were. One of the sweets were the candy sticks in a box, he liked them because he thought the noise it made when he shook them was cool. I asked if anyone wanted the sweets as they would go to waste because he doesn't eat sweets. One of the other Mum's said, 'you're lucky'...I couldn't help think, luck has nothing to do with it!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a sweet nazi, he has had them before, but he's not even 3, why would he need to eat them on a regular basis?! If he's been a good boy & he deserves a treat, he gets a cookie, which he thinks is great, but they're actually quite good for him, as they're the strawberry/blueberry/apple/fig newton style fruit bars that you get in Sprouts, but he thinks he's getting a treat. He also likes those all fruit lollypops & that's a treat for him too.

that's something that amuses me about one of the missus' cousins, he kid drinks soda like it's going out of fashion, cans of coke all the time, and junk food, we both think it's really bad, but who are we to say anything...

I don't know why anyone would give their kid soda, Tyler hasn't had it, except for one time when I caught a random woman giving him some of her soda when we were at 'In n Out'! I couldn't believe it, she was sat at the table behind where Tyler was sitting in a high chair, I don't know what she was thinking, he was only 2! Devin was furious.

Melon is Tyler's favourite too, but he'll eat any fruit, sometimes I have to stop him, or else that would be all he ate. As for regular/savoury food, you can't go wrong with potatoes, he eats any sort of potato, his favourite being mash, he definitely takes after his mum!

I don't think so. At least, not noone that I've spoke to has said they were "Mrs. Bob". Sounds like she likes to cook though, I'm sure we'd have a fine time.

It's interesting, I have always been told that Yorkshire Puddings are tempermental - and I have never had a problem.

I'm sure they're trying to lull me into a false sense of security, and then I will try to make them for a dinner party of 20, and THEN they will be flat as pancakes.

And I think they're meant to be plain - you just need to make a terrific gravy to go with them.

I am always stunned at the amount of soda that is drunk here. However when I am feeling all smug and british I remember the ribena thing about 14 years ago. Lots of babies and toddlers were given ribena because it's good for you....vit c and all that and they all got rotton teeth. My nephew was one of them. Lost all his front baby teeth.

OMG friends of mine, family of 5, came to stay for a bit over a week. They went to the store to get 'drinks'. Sadly nothing fun, all soda. They had a stack of cases of soda (on their sides) that was taller than me! And I'm not short. And they drank it ALL and went back for more.

I cannot imagine. Of course, I don't really like the stuff much.

Holy crap didn't know that! My Mum would never buy Ribena for us, as it was too expensive, so we got the cheap stuff...seems like that was a good thing! Tyler eats food that's naturally flavoured, so when he drinks his juice (1 part apple/orange juice to about 5 parts water) he thinks that's really sweet! Bless his little cotton socks, he's got some lovely teeth...lets hope they stay that way! :D
