How to get in the USA
Can someone point me in the right direction
Any posts on here or other forums where I can get info on how to be able to move to Florida
Whats required , I understand you need jobs to go to, is this right
Its only a thought at present, may be going over for a holiday soon to have a look around, any areas to steer clear of.
Any info appreciated

Re: How to get in the USA
Surely the best way to get into the USA is to get on a plane, fly here, present a valid passport and I94 and hope immigrations let you in......of course thats only for a holiday and you'd then have to leave within 90(?) days.....
As for working and living here...pretty much forget it unless you are a nurse, doctor, someone outstanding in their field or have a load of cash to invest in a buisiness.

you realistically need £250,000 / £300,000 behind you.
it's a shitty visa though and offers no greencard in the long run, it just allows you to live here until you die or move home whatever is the sooner.

It basically boils down to one of:
1) Company transfer
2) Highly skilled
3) Highly sought after (nurses etc)
4) Marriage
Don't take my word for it, there are so many others here with more knowledge about this than me.

Re: How to get in the USA
Alright then... here it is for you:
There are basically SEVEN ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US:
(1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen.
(2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience.
(3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.
(4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship.
(5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)
The business must have a minimum value of around $100k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $250k would be a nearer minimum
(6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. And your background will be investigatedto the hilt.
(7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years.

Thanks for all replies
Florida was just a thought, never been to Florida and as we might be holidaying there we thought we might have a look at some property, been to the Caribbean before but thought Florida was a safer bet.
Moved to France last June and we have had a very cold winter so thought of Florida for the next move.

FL is great for a holiday for sure. Its a different kettle of grouper living here. Besides its not really the Real USA is it.
I may be wrong but I thought the whole of the Northern Hemishpere has had an unusually cool winter this year? Akthough Feb has been above average in the 48 contigious states....

Apparently you can just go live and work there if you have a British Passport and buy a business with no fannying around with E2 visa and the like.
