Houston Guide - need contributions
Those living in the greater Houston area:
This is a regular question, so I figured it would be easier to have a Wiki entry to point to. I would be very grateful if people would be so kind as to write a little bit of an area guide if you're living there? I'll collate it all and stick it in the wiki section. Thanks in advance.
And tonrob - we know what the poll returned, so you can bog off!

I'll bite - firstly Cypress isn't in Houston either, much like Katy and Sugar Land. It's address is Cypress rather than Houston (I'm in Houston by about 50 ft - literally).
When I get a chance in the next few days I'll write up something about the greater Cypress area.

Meh, google was inconclusive but I figured you'd correct it. I didn't put that 290 was the spawn of the devil now, did I?

I've updated this, if anyone has anything else to add?
I may need a tumbleweed smiley.

When I visited Houston last year the traffic was hell and the smog was terrible. Is this the usual conditions?

We're living off Beltway 8 at Briar Forest, and I can't see how anyone can survive in this area without an EZTag... the Beltway gets clogged from about 7am to 10am, and then again from 4pm to 7pm...

Don't know about smog yet (though I can't see how it could be anything but awful...) but the traffic has to be seen to be believed here.... this is a city that could have done with a London/New York underground system, but now will never get it, and the roads, despite being huge compared to the UK, are slowly getting choked up...

I've only just got round to reading this as I couldn't open it on the iPad.
I know he's my husband, but well done Mr Weeze and the other contributors. That's should save some time every other week when the Houston Questions come up.

Cypress
A growing area that should benefit from the eventual expansion of 290 but where traffic and commutes could be a real downside in the meantime. Typically this includes the areas adjacent to 290 from Barker Cypress to Katy Hockley Rd, but for arguments sake we’ll include everything West of Hwy 6 in this. Cypress has a mix of older more affordable and newer more expensive Master Planned Communities. Typically you get more for your money here than Katy/Sugar Land but it doesn’t have the same ‘center’ and amenities as these places. Newer MPC’s include Towne Lake and Bridgeland which are planning to be self-sufficient communities though still under development, higher end developments include Blackhorse and mid range communities include Copper Lakes and Coles Crossing ($250-400k typically). Commute to downtown on 290 is not great during rush hour times. Typically 45 minutes to 1hr from Barker Cypress to 610/I-10 and 1hr to 1hr15 downtown in rush hour (6.45 – 9am) though completely dependent on weather and if there are any wrecks.

I've pulled bts out from previous answers, but if anyone else wants to elaborate on their bit of town, then feel free. If I get no more entries I'll stick it in the Wiki section, at which point you can all edit it and write whatever you choose about Houston!
