If all goes well with my H1b application I'm hoping to settle near Kansas City Missouri (possibly around Blue Springs/Grain Valley). Has anyone settled around there and have any advice?

Yes, Joseph Smith and the mormons.... But they got ran out of town and moved back to Illinois, then when Brigham Young took over they marched to Deseret.

While the largest offshot of the mormon religion is still based in Independence Missouri.

It's no bad thing that they left too otherwise Western Missouri would be a prohibition and no fun zone..........

I don't know what it's like now though.

According to my Kansas City born wife (from the Kansas side). It's a typical friendly midwest suburb with a tinge of redneck, 20 minutes to the city. Apparently one of the recent American Idol winners was from Blue Springs.

Well, ok, that was a reference to the state, not the city, but that area is way too conservative socially for me.

That is what my mid-western relatives claim; although I think they mean the Kansas-side suburbs, like Overland Park and Olathe.
