Default Holding UK Stocks?

The recent SEC regulations are making it increasingly difficult (actually near impossible) for UK institutions (banks etc) to hold UK Stocks for ex pats living in the USA.

I've been told that the only option is to have the UK Stocks held by a USA based broker - is this true?

Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this problem (i.e. a UK institution that will hold the stocks) or know of any USA brokers prepared to hold UK stocks for clients (without silly fees!).

Thanks

Look into Credit Suisse. They handle off shore holdings for US based clients.

natWest dumped my UK holdings some time ago, citing Inland Revenue crap. Currently my share certs are stuck in a bank safety deposit box!

That said, I just got an email from E-Trade about their global trading account!

Haven't checked into yet!

Sweet! I lived in Alexandria off and on for 10 years. I love that area and hope to make it back in summer of '08.
