Unhappy Help and advice required please !!

Help !!! This whole immigration thing is scaring the heck out of me. I am in a long distance relationship which we both want to be a no distance relationship. At the moment my boyfriend is living in California but is shortly to move to Florida to start his own business and wants me to move there with him. He has previously lived/worked in Florida (Tampa) and has very close friends there - so we do have somewhere to live at least. We have naively talked about me moving in the summer of this year- not realising AT ALL the problems that this will incur. The threads I have read on here today are mostly negative about moving to the US - please can SOMEONE give me/us some encouragement. We are the VERY start of our immigration trials and tribulations - where do we go first ?

Firstly identify which visa you are going to enter on - if you are going to marry him when you arrive then a K1 is just the ticket and probably the easiest in your situation and will take 3-9 months.

The process may seem daunting but it is not, as long as your intentions are good and you fill all the paperwork out there is no problems. You will love Tampa, it is a big city with a small city feel, although in the height of summer you may wish for a rainy day in Southport!

Good Luck and God Bless

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. I already like the Tampa Bay area, we were there over Christmas and New Year, though both us of would prefer to live a little further south - maybe Sarasota/Bradenton, although at the moment that really is irrelevant - I just need to get there !! Do you have experience of the K-1 visa ? Do I have to wait here until it is issued ? I know I sound naive but I have honestly NO CLUE where to start.

Try going to the 'US Marriage based Visas' forum and reading the FAQ's. And yes, unfortunately you have to wait in the Uk for it to be issued.

Another suggestion is go onto the US Embassy website and read up about it.

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/

As Rob says you will have to stay in the UK, it is just a matter of waiting and once you have done the paper work it is all about boredom.
