Said on the news last night NJ's gas prices were the lowest in the US. Makes a change 'cos we're usually the most expensive for just about everything else.

Whoa there....forget the exchange rate myth a second...

It's 94.9p per litre here and at $3.65 for US gas thats $1.04 per litre (3.5 litres in a US gallon)...so looks like PETROL is now cheaper than GAS.

Oh and my car will do 9 miles per litre as opposed to US ones that do avg of 6miles per litre.

1 US gallon = 3.78 liters

so your paying $1.87 per litre

So your paying $7.06 for the equivalent of a US gall

Of course my maths are pathetic at the best of times ..

$1.87 a liter - are the maths going the right way?

If we assume $3 a gallon based on the 3.78 thats 79c a liter which is in real terms 39p a litre - so as usual gas is 2.5 - 3 times cheaper here in the US.

Now can we have the discussion again about how its weak as piss over here.......

......but its not apples to apples is it? .....the Dollar and Pound are not simply interchangeable as numbers......

The exchange rate myth is surely only a myth if you are living in the UK and not comparing the cost of living to that in the US.......ie: the way it was before you emigrated in the first place........ :p

I'm still in the US, so the exchange rate must apply in comparisons......(when looking at costs of living).... ;)

BTW, 1 US Gallon = 3.78 litres.......but not to split hairs...... ;)

....

I doubt it .... but if a litre there is 95p ...and we know there is nearly two dollars to the pound .... $1.87 can't be far off ..

Has the rising price had any effect on your travel habits yet? I have been a little more consious about just going to the mall etc without any really good reason.

Ash :)

$3.15 today in St Louis

But I live in the UK now so I pay 94.9p per litre, whilst you live in the US now and therefore pay $1.04 per litre. (or there abouts)

Another point:

When we left the UK in 2004 petrol was bout 80p per litre...today it's 94.9, which is about 18% increase in 3 years.
When we arrived in the US in 2004 Gas was about $1.10 per gallon...now it's $3.10 (ish) where we lived...thats a 180% increase over the same time period....Can you say Holy Gas Price Rises Batman?

Put it all another way....it cost me £54 to fill my Voyager up here from empty, from which I got about 400 miles. It used to cost me $100 to fill my truck up from empty in the US from which I got about 220 miles.
