OK - so I think Iberia are now state-run by the Spanish govt, who are not in great shape themselves but their rates for flights from a few US cities are very, very good...

Iberia.com

$587 (all in) return from O'Hare to London in February, for example.
$435 (all in) return from JFK to London in March, for another.
You have the choice of codeshare flights with both BA and AA.

Hope it can be of use to folk.

Didn't Iberia just do some kind of merger deal with BA? Believe I read about something like this on Flyertalk. The upside should be better connections and ability to earn and redeem miles on each other's flights.

Indeed they did. Although some Industry Talking Heads have called it a complete take-over by BA;

I think what's more significant to some of us is that if you have a frequent flyer account with AA you can now earn elite qualifying miles on BA and IB, transatlantic. I haven't checked whether you can also spend miles on those carriers.

You can, but I think people have reported encountering BA-style surcharges on AA (trans-Atlantic, not domestic).

I recently used BA miles to fly AA first class to the West Coast for just $5 in fees. First class on AA short-haul is shite.

Great on Trans-Atlantic 777s, though.

Yes, the fuel surcharge, IIRC. I had a look, as I've got a trip to Blighty coming up, but couldn't see how to book award travel on anything other than AA online.

TBH, none of it's what it used to be. I would regularly book award flights up front or use miles to upgrade paid tickets, but now I just take a sandwich and an Ambien and rough it in coach - even transatlantic.

Yes - much better - but better than BA? Actually I haven't flown first on BA, but have sampled Club World (business) a few times and been fairly impressed.

Call them up; the online booking is useless IMO but I get good results on the Asia flights using AA miles.

Don't forget Citi are falling over themselves to throw AA miles at punters via their current credit card sign-up deal.
