Default financial help with housing when emigrating

My dad heard a rumor (and it was just that) that the US government are offering financial help esp for housing to people emigrating. Does anyone know if this is true?

Many thanks in advance

No it's not true.

The last thing the US government wants to do is provide financial help to people who are immigrating - on the contrary, they expect the immigrant/sponser to prove they have sufficient income/assets so the immigrant will NOT be seeking any financial help.

I'm pretty sure that's just a rumor or someone pulling your leg.

Believe this is true for certain immigrants, i.e. assylum candidates. All others immigrants must prove financial ability to support themselves or have a co-sponsor otherwise a visa is denied.

Nah -- they stopped that one! Currently new immigrants get a Fortnum's hamper, a $50 gas card and either free AAA, AARP or NRA membership for the first year.

I think you get double bonus points if you land anywhere within 100 miles of Mickey, don't you?

You'll hear many rumors like this when it comes to moving out and living abroad. As you've probably surmised from the other answers, actual answer is 'no' although there may be a hidden program / exception here or there, such as a refugee rescued by a Coast Guard cutter or a defector from the North Korean nuclear missile program who wants to move to America.

But by and large, the opposite is true. They don't want you here unless you can prove you'll pretty much never need public assistance of any sorts.

Which is after all fair enough.

Hi everyone - thanks for your replies. I am fairly certain the conversation he was in was about refugees but I promised him I would look into it. I am well aware that WE don't get anything as we've already had to prove time and time again that we are financially viable, but being my dad he kept on at tme to look into.

You know what parents are like
