Riding a bike for an hour or two is fairly easy compared to 1-2 hours of almost any other common form of aerobic exercise.

So she didn't suffer from a diagnosed metabolic disorder ... I was unsure on that point from your post. In a way, she was lucky to be able to opt for medical intervention as this is not always possible/available. It would seem that my eldest brother's only chance of a future would be via surgical intervention, but his current weight rules this option out. In his case, dieting is not really an option as he also suffers from schizophrenia and he really couldn't care less what happens anymore. He was recently diagnosed with diabetes, has the worst case of varicose viens I have ever seen, cannot breathe properly anymore and has also suffered more than one mini stroke!

I know the pain associated with RA can be really debilitating, I suffer from another type of arthritis but I can sympathise with your wife! I am not in constant pain (yet?), but during the bad periods the pain can really make life miserable! :( RA is particularly cruel as it usually strikes when you are still young. Did your wife have any idea that she might be at an increased risk of RA .... I believe it is hereditary?

No metabolic condition that we are aware of, although her docs do think the thyroids played up a lot.

Anyhow as for the hereditory thing, yes, MIL has fibromialgia (sp) with is very similar

Send him over to my house at 6.30am for my morning run, I'll soon shave a few pounds off him.

Don't believe what Hollywood throws at you. The typical californian you see on the street is hispanic, female, and 145-160lbs with 3 kids. 80% of the population here is overweight.

Absolutely true. I moved to SD 12 years ago and married a Mexican-American woman. Here's a photo of what she looked like at the beach when I met her

and what she looks like now. She's been eating fine, just not healthy.

The reason that happens is purely medical. Once a woman has snared her partner she does not feel the need to stay thin & attractive as she does not need to appeal to a man anymore.

The same behaviour is exhibited in the male, he decides that he can leave the loo seat up, break wind in front of his loved one and other male traits that he kept hidden till the wedding. :D

she also seems to have a nasty facial disfigurement as a side effect of her eating difficulties

Anyways I decided to up my exercise from working out 3 times a week, to running 30 mins every morning before work as well as my afternoon workouts and really sticking to a clean diet. so far so good, as the pants are getting looser.

Matey was walking around Bally's last night with this hand machine that tests body fat.......OMG, that can't be right I said it must be wrong.."yeah right" he said "everyone says that!".

I'm coming upto 31 in september, I was 195lbs with a 34" waist when I first came here, now its like swimming against the bloody tide....is this when it all goes to rat-shit and you just fall apart???
I mean what the F*** do I have to do, run a bloody marathon every morning :scared:

Try the 'Body For Life' diet (ISBN: 0060193395), I lost 30lbs in 3 months doing that. Bill Philips is a real motivator, I went from doing virtually no exercise to making visits to the gym before work every day.
