Default Failed driving test

In Red Hook, Brooklyn today. The instructor had it in for me from the start.

I failed for aborting a three point turn as a truck was bearing down on me after about 60 seconds. I stopped on the left hand side of the road to let the truck past.

He could barely conceal his delight when saying "you're not in England now". He made me drive straight back to the start and failed me. I must have been in the car for 3 mins max.

Annoyed the hell out of me. I can drive well but was being cautious, as I was advised to do. Now I must apply for a new learner permit as it was about to expire, which means spending a day at Herald Square.

I understand caution, but if it takes you 60 seconds to do a 3 point turn, it's probably best that you aren't on the road.

Including time spent waiting for the truck to pass.

I realise this is insignificant compare to those with e.g. visa issues, but it made me mad. The instructor was a grumpy sod.

sorry I shouldn't but I did

I know what you mean, I got dinged with a minor fault when I did my test in Maine, had to reverse in a straight line for 50 feet or so, but that would have meant crashing into a snow bank so I swerved around the bank. She said if I'd have crashed I'd have failed but as I didn't continue in a straight line I got a minor fault for not having control of the car.

Annoying, but still, I passed...good thing I didn't speed though, but I couldn't anyway as there were still a mountain of snow as there had been 6 feet of snow from a blizzard the last couple days.

My first test appointment, I'd borrowed a pool car from work. First thing he did - even before getting in - was to ask me to put the handbrake on and take my foot off the brake. Car crept forward. Failed! Bugger...

Second test appointment, used friend's car. A small instrument was produced (no - not his penis) that slid over the top of the rolled down window to measure the tint, which was 0.0000012 thingumies too dark. Failed! (Never mind the fact that this car had apparently passed the Mass. safety inspection for years with this factory-applied tint). Bollocks... :curse:

Third test appointment, by now we'd bought our own car and there were no problems with that. We arrived back at the test center exactly 5 minutes after leaving, with me having passed. Yay!

Mrs tonrob's test took 4 minutes. If only I'd worn the same short skirt...

3 point turns?

Reversing?

I made an emergency stop to avoid running over a squirrel, made some comment about not having to do that later, funny look as it became clear that was not part of the 'test'.

My OH failed his test the first time too, so don't feel too bad. He had to pass a mail truck, and did not pass wide enough. Apparently the tester braced himself cuz he thought my OH was going to hit the mailman! We laugh now, but he was more than pissed off at the time.

that place is pretty grim - I found the DMV office on Greenwich Street down by Battery Park to be a lot more efficient

We took our oldest son for his test about 2 years ago, we watched him drive away with the tester, just as we turned to walk away, he drove back into the car park! He had been told to turn left and had! Unfortunately, he ignored the RED light and oncoming traffic!!
He had the same guy the second time, you could almost smell the FEAR in him! (he passed that time)
