EPL on ESPN

Ok so I've kind of asked this question before but a different way. I checked back to that old thread and I didn't get the info I need.

I'm about to get cable and want to get all the Premiership footy I can. But cable in my area does not carry FSC or FSC+ (at this time).

Yes, I know I really need satellite to max out EPL coverage. But at the moment that's not an option since I'm renting.

My cable carrier does carry a lot of ESPN channels. My question is which channels is the EPL covered on, on the ESPN network. Is it mainly ESPN and ESPN2? Or neither of those? Or do they spread the coverage over all of their channels in order to try and make you subscribe to all of them?

TIA

BG

Re: EPL on ESPN

Dont have cable, but ESPN3 (online) has some EPL games.

When I did have cable, ESPN and ESPN2 were both part of the basic package, (FSN was not basic) but back then ESPN only had the Champions League. Have you checked to see whichy ou get with the basic package?

Re: EPL on ESPN

Also worth checking if your cable company subscribes to espn3. Just go to espn3.com and you will quickly find out yay or nay.

ESPN2 shows the odd game, usually one game on Saturday, sometimes a Monday game, sometimes nothing. ESPN shows games but I don't think I've ever seen it showing an EPL game. I don't think ESPN3 shows games that aren't shown on ESPN or ESPN2.

ESPN2 has the rights to the early Saturday game, if there is one (12:45pm kickoff in England).

I guess that's an option, but it would be much better to be able to record matches on the DVR that comes with cable, and much better to watch matches natively on the TV rather than watching on the PC or trying to hook up a PC to the TV.

Anyone else got any info on the original question?

I write for a US website called www.livesoccertv.com they have every channel that shows footie in the English speaking world and more depending on the league.

There are also peer to peer sites that show feeds online from the Far East etc etc

(as others have kinda said - but just to qualify....)

Some English Prem games used to be shown on ESPN - now they are shown on ESPN2. In HD - the quality is great.

Normally the early Sat game. If there isn't one then they will often show a 3pm English game - ie last week they showed Blackburn v Chelsea.

Some Monday night games. Depends on the teams. I was hoping to watch Blackpool v WBA the other day but it wasn't on. You can probably guess the teams that would get shown.

Shame you can't get FSC or FSC+ but at least with ESPN2 you will get to see something.

Cool. Handy site. In the 'Advanced Search' a live/delayed/both, TV/Online/Both and a 'choose country you are in' options would be a good improvement. Knowing what I could watch if I was in Australia ain't that useful.

Must admit I normally use http://www.soccertvlisting.com/ now as it just lists games being shown in the USA.

Without wanting to p#ss off Carolina Tiger too much - anyone else got any other soccer USA TV listings sites?

I use livesoccertv.com for a quick check to see what games are showing in the USA. I find it easy to use.

I have Verizon Fios with ESPN, Fox and Gol TV (which is handy for UEFA cup matches - happy days last night!!!). I have a total overload of football every weekend.

To the OP..... if you want football step up and and get your wallet out....Saying you wont get a dish because you rent is a little sad.....

A lot of apartment complexes don't allow satellite dishes to be put up so you have to go with cable. No choice.

I have found that you will lose your deposit but they generally won't stop you. I bit the bullet and got Directv event though the apartment complex I live in says no satellite dishes.

I am pretty sure Colorado has a statute that say you can have Satellite, not matter what the complex says.

Thanks for the replies once more.

Like digbydog, I am an LFC fan so am looking for a lot of coverage of them.

Livesoccertv.com does seem a lot better than soccertvlisting.com for ease of seeing what's coming up.

I guess I'll suck it and see with ESPN and ESPN2 and see if it's worth adding other ESPN channels later.

digbydog Nov 5th 2010 2:31 pm

Re: EPL on ESPN

If you get ESPN, Fox and Gol Tv you will see nearly every Liverpool game live. Sometimes there might be a delayed game so if you can stay away from the internet during the day it still seems live :)

LFC have a huge following in the USA (and worldwide) and therefore major coverage.

I am a Hull City fan and in the two years we were in the Premier League I missed only six games and I follow an unfashionable side by Premier league standards.

It is possible to watch every top four match either live or on delayed live coverage within a few hours of the final whistle. Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Soccer Plus, ESPN, ESPN 2, and GolTV will allow you to not miss any game.

They might just not be 100% live, but in the US it's easy to not find out the score. It's not like the great "Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads" episode with Brian Glover and England's trip to Hungary.

Unfortunately, as a Liverpool fan you may miss a few as your guys are having a stinker of a season so far.

Sounds like I need to hound my cable operator to pick up the Fox channels ASAP!

Never heard of Gol TV, need to look into that.

Oh and are there any good highlighs programs on ESPN for the EPL? To see brief highlights and goals etc?

Cheers once more fellows!

It might be a good idea to download expat shield so that you can watch iPlayer from the Beeb as well. It acts as a proxy server

You mean http://www.expatshield.com/ ?

Anyone use it? Is it any good? What's the catch(s)?

Just that over the years I've just got a bit skeptical of these free proxy things. They often work really slowly (or don't work at all), install gawd know's what on your machine (that is hard to get rid of), take up a lot of resources etc etc.

If it works well I can handle advertising whilst using it - no problem with that. I'd even click a couple of links...

I've downloaded it and it's pretty good. Yeah, it does slow your system down a little when it's turned on but there is a button on your toolbar that you can turn on or off as you need.

It's great for the Beebs iPlayer and MOTD, Footie Focus etc

Cheers 'Tiger - I may give it a go.

Must admit I don't miss really BBC or ITV (football coverage or otherwise) but it would be handy sometimes for the odd thing.

Goes without saying - you need to Hull to stay up. Once you go down to League One then you really do struggle to see any live games on USA TV. At least you get to see the odd one whilst in the Championship.

Just hoping Southampton can get their sh#t together this year. 2nd place (or winning the play-offs) will do fine. Then go up again (easy!) and I can see 75% of our games on live or delay. You watch - they will get back into the Prem and then it will be that season that USA TV stops bothering showing English football at all on TV!!!

I support Cov, we were relegated at about the same time I came over here. I remember watching us play West Ham in the Premiership the season before, live in Steamboat Springs. Just me and the now missus and some bemused bar staff.

What was the score?

Do you miss going to Cov games much? I expect you would do more if you were still at Highfield Rd but that new ground of yours is in a p#ss-poor location. As least when Saints moved they stayed in the city centre.

With the timezone lark I ain't even tried watching any games down a bar - just watch them at home. Plus not many bars are subscribed to SaintsTV to get the SFC radio commentary!

Re: EPL on ESPN

I have my own bar.

My brother has a Season Ticket, he took over mine actually, but this was in the Highfield Road days. I have been to the your new ground a few years back, trying to remember the name of the Pub we went to.

The new ground is easier to get to by car and you can park in the Tesco car park. I usually go by train, walk to the pub we use in the city center and then share a cab to the ground. Something about going to a 13th Century pub before the game. And it has v good beer.

I tried Expat Shield, I have Satellite (Hughes) and our download is marginal without it and no up to it with it. But it is free and useful when you really need to see something. As long as I can download it!

I left Blighty just after we got back into the Championship in 2005. I went home at the tail end of last season with the hope of seeing the Tigers play a Premiership game.

All the games were sold out and I had someone offer me a ticket for the game against Villa but it was postponed due to the Villians playing in the FA cup so I never got to see the Tigers in the top flight. :-(

I remember when you lost to Bradford on the last day of the 1996 season to go down to the old 4th division.

Bradford winning put them in the playoffs instead of us.

which is why i remember it, not because I have a hankering for following hull

No, the trip to Steamboat was before I moved over, my first skiing experience.

I had a day with the 4 year olds and then they took me to the top.....

I remember we lost I think in the last few minutes, funny I remember defeats much more clearly than victories, a lot more of them to remember.

Boiler - so where is your bar then? Just curious...

BTW - Expat Shield does not work for a certain UK site that is known to be a fair way of betting.

It doesn't flash up instantly that you can't use it - but try logging in and it tells you politely to piss off.
