I do miss the pool.

You need to be in a RV court where they have such amenities. I've sure they abound in the panhandle.

I too have decided that daytime drinking is perfectly acceptable in these trying times. Recommended, even.

So you would think but this area is still rebuilding from Hurricane Michael 18 months ago. Many campgrounds were damaged and those that have reopened are full of either locals without a home, contractors or snow birds.

We are paying $750/month including electric. This site was destroyed and is still rebuilding. The site owner had a house on site that was destroyed and now living in an RV.

We tried to get on a site with more amenities, including a pool, but they were either full or charging upwards of $1,500/month.

Another benefit of the RV is if another hurricane bowls in, we can hook up our home and drive it to safety.

Wow - $1,500/mo! What does a small, similarly appointed apartment go for in the same area?

Could probably find a reasonable, unfurnished apartment for that price but then into buying furniture again. Then we would be paying to store the RV somewhere.

Nope. Not going there.

I have often thought that buying a 1/2 acre pouring a small slab to park on putting in a one bed size septic system power and water and letting this be home base. Maybe a storage shed also. Would have to find just the right location maybe with a good neighbor to watch when off on the road.

Would that fly, zoning-wise?

That would be a problem in many areas especially large cities. In small towns and rural areas would be possible. I could easily do it most areas of TN. If you had more land say 3 acres with woods just do it and it wouldn’t be visible.

I agree with this, it would work in most of NC too. The only problem you might face would be persuading a septic tank company to install a tank and drain field if you didn't have a permit. A few years ago when we had some signs of an issue with our drain field (that seems to have gone away ) when I asked our septic tank contractor about expanding the drain field, the contractor told me that he would only dig what was specified on the permit. I didn't push the issue, but I am not sure if I could have persuaded him to dig a non-permitted system, which would have left me digging an extension to my own drain field.

In my neighborhood it is recommended to get the septic permit before any construction done. For the idea to work the site should be for a house trailer permitted which would make everything easy permit wise. There are no shortage of areas in Florida where house trailers are allowed. Another approach would find a site to build a pole barn , then the camper could be lived in inside the pole barn with big doors or parked along side as desired. A pole barn can be built very cheaply.

Hopefully it's all moot and he gets to move back to Pensacola, which is a step up from Panama City.

If you're in your RV perfectly acceptable, but drinking on public property may not be. I found out it's a no-no in state parks. I was only in Pinellas county and Manatee county about 7 years ago but I saw a lot of spots that looked perfect for parking an RV by the shore. I suppose given some events since then a lot of them could now be full, but if fully serviced pads are in short supply it should still be possible (if you can find a place to park it) to make a deal with a site somewhere nearby to at least pump out and fill water tank periodically. The downside to that is security. In a real trailer park/campground you can make friends with the neighbours and watch each others' place. The surf fishing tackle isn't a drunken rant, it's a lifestyle choice down there. Peninsulas are just an excuse for lots of coastline and lots of beaches, and as mentioned, if you aren't tied to a lease and the weather gets dangerous you can just drop it into drive and move inland.
