Were they both in NC?

A US colleague recently contacted me about removal companies US to UK. He had been offered a job at a UK university (in London).

He sold his house, packed up his office and was making all the necessary plans when he received a call from the Dean to say that due to the financial situation, they were withdrawing the offer. :curse:

Yes. The big two in the Triangle. You can PM me if you want the names of the institutions but I think you'll be able to work it out.

even worse, find out they aren't as advertised and/or are dodgy pyramid schemes all ponced up

I haven't had that problem. I can usually tell in 10 minutes talking with the people if the job is a good fit for me

This time it was expected and I'm probably also hardened by experience.
I'm also financially sound (apart from some 401k losses) and have no debt.
It'll turn around and I think it's a great opportunity for careful investment, for those that actually have any money or savings
Good for you! I thought I was financially sound enough to withstand a job-loss but I stupidly had all my money in the stock market so using it now would be devastating. If you don't have a sense of desperation, being out of work for a while could be fun! I have so many projects I want to get to around the house, I reckon I could take off a year and stay busy.
