Default EAD & SSN question please

I got my EAD card this week,I took it to the social security
administration to get a SSN,The nice lady told me I get
a SSN in the mail in about 2 weeks, but she said it will say
(you cannot use your SSN card to work)thats what it says
on my print out too,and I told her ,the INS officer sayd
it would say(work only with INS authorisation),so I don't
know what to do now, what can I do?
Please any body out there know what to do?

Thanks for your help

Hi Marlena
I also recevied my EAD and then SSN. Mine said that I was able to work "with INS authorisation". I think you are right in saying that is what should be on it.

I would wait until you receive the card and see what is on it. If it says that you cannot work, I would go back to SS with the EAD which shows you are authorised to work and ask for a correction.

I am not an expert. hopefully someone else will respond to your thread if there is some reason that your SS card is different.

Either you misunderstood her, or she has no idea what she was talking about.......

The card will simply say "not valid for employment without INS authorization" (or
something similar).

IT MEANS NOTTHING as far as the number goes, and everything you need the nnumber for,
except that when you are asked for it by a prospective employer, you need to show
your EAD card, or a green card......THAT'S IT !!

SO.....you do not neeeed to do anything.

Also, you can work......that is the point of getting the EAD.

Ben

Thanks for your reply,I just see when I get it in the mail,
I just don't like to go back there and start all over again,
because I cannot work with the wrong SSN card,it will take longer for me to get a job.

Thank you very much for your help!

No, it will say you cannot work unless you have an okay from INS, which is what
the EAD is.
