If the DVLA can see (or you have evidence) that you used to have a regular GB licence, you can get it back without the "automatic only" endorsement.

I hope what JAJ says is true, and it does make sense. But you do have to be honest. The reciprocal arrangement between Canada and UK is that the exchanging authority in Canada (those provinces that subscribe to the reciprocal arrangement, that is) will send the UK licence back to DVLA, so it might be a little bit naughty to claim you lost it nudge, nudge

I think JAJ is correct. If you passed your drivers test in the UK you should be entitled to UK drivers licence regardless of the fact that you swopped it for a Canadian one. You've previously proved your ability to drive a manual transmission.

Re: Driving lisence help
A friend of mine was telling me that his father went abroad and came back and had lost his license - ie mislaid it - and re-applied for one on his return to a new address.
DVLA made him sit a test again. I can't work that one out.

this is from the DVLA website
Canadian driving licence
When exchanging your Canadian driving licence you will only be able to drive automatic vehicles. To be able to drive manual vehicles, you will need to provide acceptable proof from the issuing authority or an approved driving school showing that a manual car test was passed.
