When I first came over there were a few in the Charleston SC area. The only movies they showed were porno, and yes we went.

Seems it closed when the owner died in 2007..shame

There used to be one in Lexington,IL,(on Route 66),just down the road from us,but we had a big storm several years ago and it got blown down.....they never rebuilt it....I wish they had...we never got round to going to that one,but we used to take the kids to one, nearly every week, when we lived in N. California,it was a great evening for all of us...if I remember rightly,it wasn't too far from Fairfeild,CA.
It's such a shame so many have closed down...I always thought they would be everywhere before I came to live here,it was definately one of the things I'd always wanted to do when I got here....I'd much rather go to a 'drive-in',than one of those huge cinemas!

Did you go up to the one in Skowhegan? I have been meaning to go there for years, and somehow never got around to it. I really have to make an effort this summer, it sounds so much fun!

Nope I went to Bridgton, I didn't know about the one in Skowhegan. The one I went to we drove through Oxford and Norway.

When we were kids we used to sneak up across the road from the drive in to catch the films that we weren't allowed to see. They had this old security guard named Rusty who would walk back and forth with a flashlight scanning the tree line looking for us (there were probably about a dozen kids hiding in the woods every night). Of course, Dusty never walked anywhere without the flashlight on so you knew when he was coming and could take cover, and when they had 'certain' types of films on Dusty was usually looking at the screen and not hunting for us.

yes...saw that on the list, but we're a pretty good distance north of Springfield,it just wouldn't be worth driving that far....the kids are grown up now anyway, just a real shame so many have closed down.

We have one about half hour drive from us, TBH I find that I get rather distracted from the film and end up watching kids running around in there PJs

We just managed to see something at our nearest in SoCal before it closed down permanently - boo hoo! It was fun, the sound was crap but it was a must do for us. glad we did it.

Something worth doing, always a bargain....been to a couple in Maine, the one near Portland is great though the one in the lakes area, Bridgestone? That's nicer.

There's one near where I live that's $20 a car load I think, so plan on seeing Indiana Jones and whatever the other movie is some time when it comes out...

Nope, It's open during the summer. All last summer we had the films and times listed at the hotel where I work. It was always a double bill for about $5.00...bargain!
