I Understand. The problem is I have 2! And no airline would allow myself as 1 passenger to have 2 carriers or even one with 2 dogs In it, as both can fit in one anyways. I am stuck on this one.

I would start by asking your vet if in his opinion your dogs are ok to travel in the hold of a plane.

Yes they are. So worrying , but don't want to leave them behind either. Hope my vet gives me some sound advice, that they can travel but with whatever needs be placed. Wish I could travel them both on board with me. BA I shall defo fly with as its the only airline that direct to San Diego from Heathrow.

Whichever way you do it please keep us posted. I know that you will need a certificate from the vet anyway to say the dogs are fit to travel as we have to get one along with flea and tick treatment etc before we go. Our vet also did a rabies injection just in case. Good luck.

Rabies shots can normally be done once you are in the U.S...rather than the UK. If you get it done in the UK you need to find out whether the state you will be living in requires a live vaccine or not. If your dog gets the wrong type of vaccine it will need to be done again when he arrives.

I shall indeed keep everyone posted on this. I shall check with my vet whether rabies injection should be administered before or after once in the USA. If need be.

I am curious. Is Vet bills just as expensive as over here? Like, is the prices more or less the same. Just thinking how unlike NHS, medical in the USA for us, is so daunting to think about.

It depends where you live. Where I lived it was more expensive than the UK but now I'm in Toronto the vet bills are sky high. For example I was quoted over $1K to have my tiny dogs teeth cleaned.

There are things like heartworm tests and meds, flea and tick meds, rabies shots etc that you don't really have to worry about in the UK.

First you need to check what type of vaccine is required by the state you will be living in. The UK vet will not know this and if your pets get the wrong type of vaccine you will have to have it done again in the U.S. I would not want my dog...especially tiny dogs...to have more than one rabies shot.

Oh I wish it was easy to just have these two with me on board. They both sleep all day together, so they wont even be a bother.

You have already been told that your vet in the UK is not an appropriate source of info regarding vaccination requirements for California, or anywhere in the US.

Google <California rabies vaccine> and there is a wealth of information available, including a number of information documents issued by the state government of California.

I think we pay about $30 per rabies shot for our cats.
