If we are comparing US to UK it is a no brainer.

I certainly agree with the need for just one force, voting for Sheriff also struck me as weird.

Could have been a lot worse, so I guess you should be happy it wasn't.

I agree. It certainly wasn't some minor altercation.

To the OP - The days of solving your problems with physical violence are long over in the US. You hit people you go to jail. Maybe just for a night or maybe for a very long time ... I guess that all depends on how hard you hit them. You're lucky your victim wasn't carrying a legally concealed weapon.

I see the sense in that, however I also see sense in forcing prisoners to do something to 'earn their keep' and pay for all that food in their belly and roof over their heads while they do their time.

They make your license plates, make furniture for sale and other crafts. Plenty of stuff they can do from within prison without pouncing about outside.

One thing that does amuse me though, how different attitudes are to DUI depending on your location.

Up in Maine, there's something like over 20K people who have lost a license 10 or more times but still get their license back and it's not seen as a big issue. Down my way, they make it out to be a big issue, but reality doesn't match up. They force pubs onto town lines so that drunks aren't seen walking around town, but they don't care that those drunks then have to drive home because there isn't any other service and no those people won't stay home to get drunk.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio...they "call" him Americas toughest Sheriff...

I agree with the way he runs his jails...however, he has jumped in on the immigration thing...and not making himself any friends there...

Whole other topic

That's Sherriff Joe Arpaio, no messing with him.

His tents are where you will end up if pulled for a DUI in Phoenix so It's wise to be careful.

You beat me to it.

I also agree with some of his methods but he has too much political infighting IMHO.

As you say another topic for another day.

He actually endorsed one of our county Sheriff candidates...not that I was voting for that particular idiot anyway, but it hardly helped him...

Besides which the whole "endorsed by so and so" usually makes me vote the opposite!!

and yes, I agree, he is..
