LOL - got the overnight train from Beijing to inner Mongolia a couple of years ago. The train was actually pretty good, but the smell coming from the toilets was somewhat nose and/or stomach turning, so I held off as long as I could, but I'm nothing if not regular (not quite as regular as francs11, but regualr enough ), and it was quite a long overnight journey, so eventually I had to brave it. The smell did nothing to prepare me for what was behind the door. French style sqautters, but given the age of the carriages, the state of the track, the rocking motion was clearly (how can I say this without putting Jersey off her supper - she missed lunch after all ) well, lets just say peoples aim wasn't all it could've been. But it must have been a hell of a bump to hit the ceiling!! I kid you not. Reminded me of the photos you saw of the H blocks.....only worse! Certainly got my vote for crappiest crapper I've ever seen. For the return journey, I was popping charcoal pills for about a day before we got on the train - didn't poo for 3 days

I find grocery stores to be more reliable. But there are nasty ones in that category, too.

Now that my eldest is out of diapers/nappies (anyone who has been there done that with a 2 year old knows about the hourly 'I need to go potty'). I have taken to carrying alcohol based hand sanitzer to use on the seats before she goes.

been to a gas station loo in an emergency!....NEVER again!,we stop either at the rest stops or find a store, supermarket or Subway/MacDonalds.....we stopped at a Greek restuarant in Chicago once when I was in a panic to spend a penny!,I swear it was even more disgusting than the worse gas station loo in the country!!!,no light,no sink to wash hands, employees coats hanging in there, and stunk......apart from that....it was lovely!!!!!!!!.......Sophia :scared:

It is not just petrol stations, a lot of shops have disgusting toilets. I have walked out of many of them, also a few eateries, they cannot understand when I complain about it.

I don't know One (along the I-5 to Oregon) is named after a creek. Here's some information - lol - this person actually thought it was a good place to go - can't imagine writing a critique of a rest stop.

We still carry our daugther's potty chair. It works wonders, especially when there isn't a toilet around. There are just some toilets I don't want her sitting on.

Yes I know Your talking to a germaphobic I don't let her touch the door handles or anything else in there either. After I wash my hands I also use my hand towel to open the door and then use the hand sanitizer after I have left just be on the safe side!

Nice idea for long trips but not very practical when I am toteing a 2 year old, a 4 month old, a stroller, a diaper bag and shopping around the mall
