I agree - it really cheapens high school graduation, don't you think? That's intended to be quite special ... but if it's the 3rd or 4th one... hmm ...

Oh I don't know about that - it probably depends. I won't teach you our secret handshake then.

It's actually a nice way to build comraderie, and in many cases they do community service, etc. (Mine did) Also - when your university is quite large, it's nice to have a smaller group to bond with.

Then again - I wasn't in a large hard core social sorority (but rather a service one) and my friends in the social sororities sometimes regretted joining later on.
