A family of 4, could easily pay upto a $1200 mo x 12 = $14,000 a year. That would still only have 80% coverage at hospitals, co-pays for Rx. Deductible of maybe $500 per person per year.
Cheap family cover is $500 per mo, probably need to die before get to use it.

This is a very serious topic, anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
I personally have pretty much top of the line Med Insurance through my wife's job. Without it, I would really consider going home. We are considering, moving to another State, our biggest dilemma is her finding a job, with equal Med Insurance. She pays no co pay for our son & me. We all get FOC Rx's, Dental & Optical plan. Chiropractor/ acupuncture FOC. Cat scans etc FOC. One scan can cost $1000 - $1500.
Been here for 17 + years. Still scares the hell out of me. We have several self employed friends who have no insurance, you should see some of the bills they pay. Just cost one of them $1000 for skin biopsy.
I tell my wife if we have no insurance & I get sick, stick me on the plane (Bernies weekend) send me home one way.
Reg. Lets all stay really well.

Interesting and worthwhile comments. But old people do lose their homes to pay for Nursing Home up-keep, happened to a friend of mine. Dental care is not free unless you are fortunate enough to find one who is NHS. Opticians are not free either, albeit the costs are cheaper in the UK for these services. These may be mute points but are true. I have to agree without Medical Insurance I could not live in the USA. Regarding property tax on average I pay around $160/month for the lot, Water, Electric, Sewer etc etc. Could not get anywhere near that in the Uk. I live, with my wife in the equivalent of a 2 bedroom bungalow in SC in a small town. It would be different if I lived in the capital of SC from a rates viewpoint. Something to be said for retiring in SC.

You think old people don't lose their homes over nursing home fees in the US?? I agree dental and optical costs are probably moot points...
Water, electric + sewage isn't property tax. Property tax is what you pay to your County if you own a home. We live in an 'average' house and pay nearly $6000 a year - a bit more than council tax, me-thinks. :scared:
