Default Converting my 'CV' to a 'Resumé'?

Hey all

Yes, realised a day or two ago that not only are CV and resumé not interchangeable terms, strictly speaking, but that I have no idea how to format a resumé.

In the UK I have my CV professionally prepared, are there similar services in the US that cater for a CV to resumé 'translation'?

Cheers guys!

Here, I found these for you on Google:

http://jobsearch.about.com/od/sample...pleresume2.htm

http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeek.../SR_Start.aspx

http://www.resume-resource.com/format.html

It took me 30 seconds.

It does if you know how to use it.

The only major difference between a CV and resume is that on a resume, you removal some personal info (DOB, marital status etc] that might be included in a CV.
Include Career status summary
most recent 2 or 3 jobs,
list colleges, universities
notable achievements

you get the idea...

Also the length.

Resume should be consise. I'd suggest 2 full pages, and no more.

Also, the format is context dependent. What's your career area? I might have some examples you can use as a template.

Games...so, what I've done personally -

Kept contacts in the header, name/phone/email/website

Objective - What kind of gig your after, what you hope to achieve

Summary - List published credits/sku's, platforms worked on, any significant sales numbers, other important info, greencard in my case

Skills - My case, art packages, but languages for coders, engines, agile/scrum certs if you have them etc

Professional and relevant experience - company name, date (month/year), title, more detail on work accomplished, unpublished projects

Education - Degree and institution, if you don't have much experience list a little more detail that might be relevant like IP law classes etc

Misc - Any languages, any awards, other published products like board games if you have any, that kind of thing.

2 Pages max...but if your a coder, you could add more details to experience there after, but really, that should be for an interview once you've hooked them in on the resume/port folio.

Ditch DoB, Marital Status, Citizenship, hobbies anything below Highschool, perhaps say A-Levels in blabla equivalent to high school graduation, again only really useful if your a bit junior or lacking loads of credits.

Edit: to add...format in Letter format and not A4!

Yeah, thanks. The reason why I get my CV/resumé professionally prepared is that I want to sell myself in the very best way possible, and someone(s) in the know will take out most of the guesswork for me. If I don't find a comany that can do them professionally, I'll do it myself, but not sure how much of an impact it will have.

Get my drift?

caleyjag and Bob - Thanks! Very, very useful info. I am a coder in the games industry, so your examples are a very big help. No time to work on it this weekend, but will certainly get going by next weekend.

Cheers, guys!
