Car registration and insurance
Scenario:
Person lives in KY. Car registered in KY and insured. Person moves to OH for a couple of months, then moves to FL. Person has mail redirected from original KY residence to their current address, receives mail from KY DMV and renews regisration when it comes up. Person lives in FL for best part of a year (so far).
Questions:
1) Is it legal to renew a vehicle registration with a state you no longer live in?
2) Does FL require you to re-register a vehicle there when one becomes resident (e.g. within 30 days or something)?
3) Are contraventions of the above likely to result in nullification of insurance coverage?

According to the Florida DMV, you've got 10 days to re-register your vehicle after you became a resident there...

2) Yes it does, as do all states and territories unless you are on active military duty as far as I know
3) Oh more than that. There's jail time for such a violation as well

Re: Car registration and insurance
Specifically on point 3, you have to insure your car at your current address. Like you can't own property in 2 states and choose to register your insurance in the state that has lower rates, because that's basically stealing. There's New Yorkers that own a vacation home in Florida and have their bills and car reg. at their Florida home while living full-time in NY, that's what i was getting at. That's insurance fraud to escape the astronomically higher rates of insuring a car in NYC
