So, I've searched and couldn't see this discussion anywhere...
What do you guys have in terms of liability cover for your car insurance? I had a scary conversation today where I was told I should have $1,000,000+
I can tell you right now, I don't.
So, is this a scaremongering tactic, or should I really be looking at coverage to this amount? I was told it's really there for if you get sued...
On a side note, I've been looking at trying to get a better rate recently and submitted an online quote, then got a follow up email from an agent suggesting I use one of their other brands and providing me with a quote that was pretty close to double the quote I was given online...
What's THAT about?! Needless to say they got a rather short and irate email back from me pretty much saying what were you thinking?

$1M liability is about right, anything less isn't worth bothering with.
You smash into someone and cripple them, their medical care would kill that liability alone, never mind pain and suffering.
And yes, it is about you getting sued, because that is what would happen.

So why isn't this the standard option. I had a look at Geico earlier, and they didn't even offer a choice for anything above $300k...

This is interesting. I currently have a quote from AIG and I got these
Bodily Injury $100/300,000 ** Per Person/Per Accident
Property Damage $100,000 Each Accident
Medical Payments $5,000
Uninsured Motorist BI $100/300,000 Per person/Accident
Other than Collision $500 Deductible
Collision $500 Deductible w/ waiver
Towing & Labor $75.00 Per Disablement
Extended Transportation $50 Per Day / Maximum $1,500
is there anything else we should be looking at? also shouldnt there be legal fees coverage as well?

It's interesting as your limits look similar to mine and I did not see an option to go above $300k.
