then once the donot call thing filters down he should stop or face a fine, but if the company is related to another company who you do have business with etc, they might get around it.
The register does wonders for lowering the number of calls though

Bob to English translation:
"but if your already a customer, it won't work..." = If you are a customer of the business calling you (ie it's your bank, or your florist etc), registering on the Do Not Call list will not stop them from calling you. And, charities & political parties are also not prohibited.
Registering gets results, and fast. And then I make a religious habit out of reporting the weasels who call anyway. You can report them on the DNC website, I think. I used to have it bookmarked but the calls have stopped again lately.

I save up unsolicited mail and every so often swap the contents around the prepaid envelopes I've aquired and then mail them all off.
I figure that it keeps sorters in a job and is good for USPS.
If we all did this then USPS might have to employ more people to keep up with the increased volumes. Think of it as a sort of economic stimulus activity.

Also about 5 years down the line, you will start getting calls again. You need to reregister every 5 years or your number falls off the list.

Add a brick to the envelope so they have to pay excess postage

All I'm going to say is this.
Some others who emigrated might/possibly/could/will understand this, and I couldN'T care less if some think I'm out of order. I have my reasons.
I pwn3d Capitol One when I emigrated.
"what's in MY wallet?". ............. Lot's and lots.
