Default Capital One are my new penpal

In the last 3 weeks I have had 7 letters from Capital One asking me to get a credit card with them. Each one is torn up and put in the bin. I don't work. I can't work. Husband gives me an allowance. There is no way my credit score is good enough to warrant these letters. It is such a waste of paper. (Husband checked his score last week and it was 720. I can't check mine as SSN is in maiden name. My name is on rent and electric bill though.)

Ohhh they must have stopped writing to me and starting writing to you

Seriously though - on the back of one of those applications is a phone #, you can call this and opt out of receiving all this crap - does it work? it did for me - we went from getting 100's of these things to getting about 1 or 2 a month!

My husband is getting about 2 a week from them also!!
They are eager to give him a card, he is going to hold out for one with BOA, he has a secured card at the moment with BOA, he must have some credit as we got our car loan, plus when he went to get our cell phones they never asked for a deposit

The stupid thing is, they send those offers to everyone, regardless of your credit standing. If you try applying, you get declined due to lack of credit history or some such thing (happened to us in the early days of my husband's immigration). Dumb.

I think they are on a marketing spam

I just had one TODAY at my work, addressed to my wife. We used this address for about a week 18 months ago! It amazes me (perhaps not) that we're able to access that data.

My wife keeps getting at least one a week, and has been for the last few months. It's interesting when we moved that within a week of moving they had our new address...

Unfortunately rent and utility bills don't help your credit score since they are not reported to the credit bureaus unless you default.

As soon as you get your social security number, have your husband put you as an authorized user on his credit card (only if he has been paying the bills on time). That should raise your credit score quickly if the bank reports you to the credit bureaus as an authorized user since you will immediately get the history of that card to recalculate your score.

They get the info from the post office when you do a change of address.

I have a SSN, it is just in my maiden name and the SSA won't change it as I don't have work authorisation.

I guess I have this notion that a marriage is a partnership, regardless of who is actually earning the income, so the idea that one partner is giving the other an "allowance" is a little alien.

Put them in the return envelop and send them back.

If it works for them, why do you care?
