Default Cajon Pass closures?

Anyone know any statistics on how often Cajon Pass (I-15) gets closed to cars because of snow or other weather? I have one relative insisting it gets closed often; the other insisting it's rare. The former lives at the bottom; the other at the top. I understand it can be open only to those with chains in certain weather.

I haven't lived in Southern California for a while (but was born and raised there) and the closures are rare.

As for snow, I think it is relatively rare -- also, if one owns tire chains -- it will remain open during snow. [I recall once an early snow at the entrance to Sequoia National Park -- the Chippies closed off the highway near the entrance unless one had chains or "M+S" tires]. Here is a link from CalTrans. Note that Cajon and Tejon passes are listed as sometimes requiring "chains" -- but nowhere near as often as the Sierra highways

Very high winds are more common from my recollection -- a passenger car might be quite OK, but you would not want to take a SUV or van. Here is a pic of a flipped truck.

It was closed this summer due to a brush fire. Thousands of folks from Los Angeles trying to get out to Las Vegas for the holiday weekend ended up sitting on the freeway for hours and hours. Luckily we managed to find a route around thanks to bossy boots our resident gps thang.

Thanks. RE Las Vegas, once they get this high speed rail thing going, then Cajon Pass and the clogged interstate to LV will be a thing of the past! Oh wait, HSR only starts from Victorville... and might never start anyway.
