Default Buying a gun when I am a permanent resident.

Can I buy a gun while a permanent resident or do I need to be a citizen? Anyone have any experience with this? I will hopefully be a citizen sometime early 2010, but for now I am a permanent resident. I know I should probably just call the local Sports Academy but that's no fun...

Thanks!

There's no Federal law that says you can't, and I'd be very surprised in Texas law said anything.

Yes you can. But I think Mr F has some posted cases where it wasn't a good idea. For the record, I did. But I was in Collyradee.

We don't like our foreigners to be armed here.

I'd guess that all you need is a picture ID, although for certain types of machine gun you may need a background check

well i am currently on a non resident visa, and i have 3 guns.

normally non immigrant visa holders are not permitted to own firearm, but there are exceptions - like owning a valid state hunting permit, and being able to show 90days continous residency - i've been through the NICS process, not a problem

now a g/c holder just has to provide his/her A#, and your good to go, you can buy whatever you heart desires.

my next purchase is an AR-15 varmint erradicator.

I think you only need be resident of Texas. Note: resident, for state law purposes does not equal the same as resident for immigration purposes.

No, he doesn't live in a compound. All firearm purchases require a background check. If you are not a US citizen, you have to show proof of residency for 90 days (at least I had to show utility bills).

And... you need a lot more than a background check to own a "machine gun".
You need a class III license, a $200 stamp (hard to get) and a shitload of money.

You do know the difference between a machine gun, a submachine gun, and a semiautomatic, right?
