Question Brits in West Virginia

Hi there, my husband (a West Virginian) and I are currently trying to work out where we would be best off applying to live, and I was hoping for some input from other Brits who have already made the move - do you regret your decision/miss home, what do you love, what do you miss, what are the main differences?

I've been over a few times, and have enjoyed my time there but am a bit nervous about guns and religion, and the driving culture. I'm not saying that these things are deal breakers, but was wondering how this has had an impact on you?

Also, whereabouts in WV are you living?

Any info much appreciated - thanks xx

Loads of those topics covered in loads of threads, so worth having a rummage around and a bit of a read. Thing is, the same will be on the flip for the OH moving to the UK....but considering the difficulty of bringing a spouse to the UK these days, it may or may not be a moot point.

As for folks in WV, there's a few in and around, might find them on the map here.

Anyway, welcome to BE and good luck!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the response

I've had a search based on 'West Virginia', and found a couple of closed threads. Really, I'm looking to make connections more than anything else, in case we do end up going that way.

In honesty, he's more open to moving here than the other way around, but it's complicated - he's basically fine with whatever I want to do.

Thanks again xx

Unless money isn't a problem for you both then the " best off applying to live " place is where you can find suitable work easily. Then you have to consider children, neighbourhoods and schools. And then you must consider both your family/relatives. You must also consider health insurance if you are not working in the US.
I don't understand - your married but not living together ?

And yes, married but not living together.

Thanks xx

We had made a firm decision on where to apply for the visa before the wedding last year, but for various reasons that's not as firm as it was.

He is from and living in WV, and I'm still in the UK.

I'm really looking specifically for the experiences of WV expats, as opposed to general advice xx
