... and then there's Connectuicut!

Under an hour from NYC by car and probably minutes by train. (Not many Brits here though) It's very pretty here, and civilised... they cook the sushi at our Dunkin Donuts!

We'd prefer to live in the City/Manhattan if we can afford it. Plus, not sure I want my wife mixing with people who slag of the husband for not painting the house/gardening/drinking too much - I'd never stand a chance

Thanks to all so far for advice/comments.

Thanks for the warm welcome and comments to date.

Hi there!

Not a Brit, I am from NYC. I love it and want to return home one day in a couple of years. I liev in Glasgow at the moment.

Manhattan.. very expensive, all I have to say (and I'm sure you knew that) but there has got to be some decent apartments perhaps downtown like financial district or the east village I saw a few there that were about 1800-2000/month (and that is the cheapest I've found! ). Upper Manhattan, such as Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood also have apartments that are in about the same price range. I personally would not live in Harlem, it used to be quite a rough area but I heard they were trying to improve it (in what way I've no clue) But most apartments I've seen around Manhattan are for about 2000-4000/month!

Look hard, you might find something decent in your price range. Good luck with your plans.

Connecticut's not bad - hubby gets the Metro North into Grand Central every day. Found out during the world cup that there's more brits here than I thought (felt like the only Brit alive when I first moved here).

Only downer in CT - you can't buy alcohol on a Sunday!

You can get a drink in a bar or a restuarant - but you can't buy it in a liquor store or a supermarket. They drape blankets over the beer in Stop & Shop!

We ensure that we stock up on Saturday!!

My problem is that as I get older - I'm losing my drinking capacity!

Thanks for the info - I'll bear that in mind if I ever get to Connecticut.

Though my question was rhetorical...
